The Parliament of Somalia began the election of a new president, announced January 30, AFP.
The main candidates for the presidency - former Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein and head of the Union of Islamic Courts, Sheikh Sharif Ahmed (Union of Islamic Courts is the most moderate branch of the Islamist Alliance for the Liberation of Somalia).
