Director of the major museums in China and Taiwan in February and March 2009 for the first time in 60 years, will exchange visits in order to improve relations between the two countries and tourism development. As reported by The New York Times, the Beijing Imperial Palace Museum in Taipei has agreed to provide the National Museum, the Palace of 17 items.
In Taipei, the National Museum, the palace is stored more than 655 thousand items, taken from the Beijing Imperial Palace during the Civil War in China. As a result, Taiwan has been an extensive collection of Chinese works of art, covering the period of 7000 years.
Contacts between the two museums have resumed, with the support of Taiwan's new president Ma Intszyu, a supporter of improving relations with mainland China. In December 2008, between China and Taiwan resumed regular flights.
