In Sao Tome and Principe averted a coup attempt.

The authorities of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe on Thursday announced the prevention of the attempted coup, reports AFP. 32 people suspected of involvement in the attempt of a coup, arrested.

Among the detainees was Arlesiu Costa (Arlecio Costa) - the representative of the opposition Christian Democratic Front. During the search conducted at his home late on Wednesday evening, were found AK-47 and other weapons, said representatives of the Ministry of Justice of Sao Tome and Principe.

Arlesiu Costa in 2003, has been accused of attempting to overthrow the president of the republic Fradique de Menezes (Fradique de Menezes).

Sao Tome and Principe - a former Portuguese colony gained independence in 1975. The population of the republic is 160 thousand people.
