Michael Glos has resigned from his post as Minister of Economy of Germany.

German Economics Minister Michael Glos (Michael Glos) has resigned, reports AFP. On Sunday, late in the evening Glos said that would send a formal petition of resignation addressed to German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday morning.

Name the new Minister of Economy, said Glos, on Monday announced the head of the Christian Social Union (CSU) Horst Zeehofer. According to the newspaper Abendzeitung, Glos will become the successor to 37-year-old Karl-Theodor zu Gutenberg (Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg) - Secretary General of the CSU.

64-year-old Michael Glos announced his intention to resign on 7 February, sending a letter Horst Zeehoferu. Justifying its decision, Glos referred to the fact that age does not allow him to properly perform duties of the Minister of Economy in Crisis. Reported that Zeehofer at first refused to resign, but after two days of consultations Glos yet been allowed to leave the post of minister.

Glos, representing the CSU party, became economy minister in 2005. CSU in the German Parliament is a single unit with the Christian Democratic Union, headed by Angela Merkel.
