Muammar Qaddafi, was elected chairman of the African Union.

Leader of the Libyan Revolution Muammar Gaddafi was elected chairman of the African Union (AU). According to agency Associated Press, this became known to a senior Egyptian diplomat.
Chairman of the Heads of Member States elected by the AU for one year. Twelfth Summit of the AU began its work in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on February 1. At the first meeting it was decided to create a new body to replace the African Union Commission and will begin to explore questions of all the camp in one of Africa nation.
The idea of creating a United States of Africa, which is an ardent supporter of al-Qadhafi, has long supported, but many African leaders refer to it with skepticism.
International Organization of African Union, which unites more than 50 African States, established in 1999. It replaced the Organization of African Unity and is its legal successor. One of the initiators of this transformation was Muammar Gaddafi.
