In 2008, nearly a third of claims considered by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), have been filed against Russia, writes edition Kommersant on Friday, January 30.
Before the Strasbourg Court issued a final report for 2008, which indicates that the Russian Federation is an absolute "record" in the number of lawsuits. Russia had been filed against the 27 246 claims, ie, 28 per cent of the total number of lawsuits in the ECHR. According to this indicator Russia is ahead of Turkey (11.4 percent), Romania (9.1 percent) and Ukraine (8.5 percent).
The head of the court, Jean Paul Costa said that relations between Russia and the ECHR are in crisis because the Russian parliament has not ratified the 14 th Protocol to the European Convention on Human Rights. Remember, Russia - the only countries in the Council of Europe, which has not so far not acceded to this Protocol. Thus, the reform of the ECHR, which provides individual cases by judges, as well as the extension of judicial powers from 6 to 9 years old, is believed by the Council of Europe, Russia blocked.
According to the Kommersant, on Friday in Strasbourg to begin celebrating 50 years of the European Court of Human Rights. At the celebrations will be attended by the head of the Investigation Committee of the Public Ministry of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin, head of the Supreme Arbitration Court Anton Ivanov and Deputy Minister of Justice George Matyushkin. According to management the Strasbourg court would convince the Russian delegation to support reform ESCHP.
