PEN American Center reward Chinese writer.

Syabo Liu (Liu Xiabo), Chinese writer, critic and dissident, is awarded in absentia PEN American Center by 28 April 2009 at. Himself a hero of the day from December 2008 is under arrest in Beijing. He arrested because of involvement in sending a human rights Charter 08, calling for freedom of speech and democracy in China, says The Times.
Liu was first arrested in 1989 after the events in Tiananmen Square, and then repeatedly went to prison in connection with human rights actions. Friends Liu believes that he can still hold in confinement for many months: it is possible that the Chinese authorities do not want to release it before the end of the celebration of Education of China, that is, until October 2009.
"Charter 08" was signed by 303 Chinese intellectuals. The charter contains 19 requirements to improve the political climate in China, including the introduction of an independent judiciary and election of public officials, the proclamation of freedom of assembly and association, freedom of religion, constitutional and fiscal reforms.
