Lukashenko called the pope in Minsk.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has invited Pope Benedict XVI in Minsk. As reported by Interfax, Lukashenko Pontiff said: "If you find time, we meet on the Belarusian land." At the same time the Belarusian president added: "If it is the will of God."
In addition, Lukashenko gave the father the image of Christ, made from natural materials, Belarus.
Conversation Pontiff and the President took place on 27 April at the Vatican, where Lukashenko has been invited to an audience.
What does it say the two leaders, is not yet known. However, earlier in the press put forward suggestions that may be, inter alia, discussed the meeting between предстоятелем the Russian Orthodox Church and the Pope.
To organize such a meeting Lukashenko has recently suggested in a conversation with the patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill. However, with this initiative, the Belarusian president spoke in the past: in 2002 he suggested that the Pope and the head of the Russian Orthodox Church met in Belarus.
