The German authorities have issued a warrant for the arrest of John (Ivan) Demyanyuka nicknamed "Ivan the Terrible", reported AFP. A native of Ukraine Demyanyuk during World War II served as a guard in the German concentration camps. He was suspected of involvement in the deaths of thousands of Jews.
According to the Central Office of Germany to investigate Nazi crimes, 88-year-old Demyanyuk natsistckom served as a guard in the Sobibor concentration camp located in Poland. The German authorities have emphasized that to them is clear evidence that "Ivan the Terrible" (this nickname Demyanyuk received for a particular cruelty) was involved in summary executions, contained in Sobibor Jews.
After the war, in the 1950's Demyanyuk emigrated to the U.S., where Ivan has changed the name to John. In 1986, to extradite him to Israel. There, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for involvement in the deaths of Jews in the Treblinka concentration camp (also located in Poland), but in 1993 the Israeli Supreme Court overturned the verdict Demyanyuk for lack of evidence.
Justified Demyanyuk returned to the United States, but in 2002 he was denied U.S. citizenship for the fact that "Ivan the Terrible" hide us from the Nazis.
