Premier of Denmark has confirmed its nominations for the post of secretary general of NATO.

The Press Secretary of the Danish Liberal Party, represented by Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen, April 3, confirmed that Rassmussen is indeed a candidate for the post of secretary general of NATO, sends agency Associated Press.

The fact that Rasmussen may change as the NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, whose term expires on July 31, said recently. However, official confirmation of the Danish prime minister has not yet been reported.

Earlier in the new NATO as other Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Radoslav Sikorsky (Radoslaw Sikorski), but on 26 January, he stated that he would not fight for the presidency. For Rasmussen's candidacy were a number of European countries including France, which in March announced his return to the command structure of NATO.

Nevertheless, the Danish prime minister candidate endorsement is not all the members of the North Atlantic Alliance. Against the election of Rasmussen, NATO called Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He expressed doubt that this will contribute to the maintenance of peace.

It is Erdogan's stance may be linked to the scandal surrounding the publication in Denmark of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. Recall that in many Muslim countries have been protests in several cases involving attempts by the attacks on Danish embassies. This remonstrant burned flags of Denmark, as well as portraits of the premier Rasmussen.
