Representatives of Georgia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia for the first time in Geneva agreed on mechanisms to prevent and respond to incidents, informs "Interfax" on Wednesday, February 18. The Geneva discussions on security and stability in the Transcaucasian region, began on Tuesday, 17 February.
Deputy head of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin, who headed the Russian delegation, the agency said: "This is the first cooperative agreement the three Caucasian states, after the Georgian aggression in August 2008 and the acquisition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia independence."
According to the Russian diplomat in Geneva, the parties signed a document entitled "Proposals for the joint mechanism to prevent and respond to incidents." The paper deals with the interaction with the aim of preventing incidents and provocations in the zones of the Georgian-Abkhaz and Georgian-South Ossetia border.
Deputy head of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the document was the first set of practical measures and recommendations agreed with the participation of Abkhazia, Georgia, South Ossetia, and Russia, the USA and representatives of international organizations - UN, OSCE and EU. "
The document provides for the participation of representatives from Georgia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia and representatives of international organizations in the weekly meetings to exchange information. The document is a recommendation.
Recall that the consultations taking place in Switzerland on the basis of agreements reached between the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev and French President Nicolas Sarkozy on 12 August and 8 September 2008. The parties met in Geneva for the fourth time, but the signing of a joint document with the participation of Georgia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia was the first time.
