NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said on Thursday, February 19, the need to develop a new strategic concept of the North Atlantic Alliance, the Associated Press.
According to the secretary general of NATO, the new concept should reflect the "new challenges of the 21 st Century." Jaap de Hoop Scheffer believes that the updated concept of the alliance should take into account such threats as international terrorism, cyberterrorism, and even the threat of global warming.
According to СхеффеÑа, the current concept of the alliance (was adopted in 1999) is hopelessly outdated and not consistent with global changes in world politics in the early 21 century.
When completed the development of a new strategy, NATO did not specify.
