At the Summit "East partnership" which opens May 7 in Prague, will represent Belarus First Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Martynov. This is stated in the statement of the deputy head of Information Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Mary Vanshinoy posted on the official website of Office.
In the summit will be attended by the heads of the former Soviet republics, invited to the "Eastern partnership" aimed at political and economic rapprochement with the EU. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has also been sent a formal invitation, but against his participation by many European politicians. In particular, the president of the Czech Republic, which is the host country, Vaclav Klaus said he had not submitted a hands Lukashenko when he arrives in Prague.
Belarusian leader accused of persecuting the opposition and that the presidential election of 2006 did not conform to the European Union by diplomatic norms. As a result, a number of senior Belarus official persons were sanctioned, including those they have been denied entry into the EU. In the autumn of 2008 the EU committed to improving relations with Belarus, and sanctions against the officials were dismissed.
Vanshina Lukashenko explained the denial of participation in the summit that "the contents of 'Eastern Partnership' strictly applied" and therefore "his management is reserved for the government."
Earlier, speaking to the Belarusian parliament, Lukashenko said that refuses to travel to the summit, if it does not want it to be.
