The mayor of the Afghan city died in a terrorist act.

Mohammad Rahim, the mayor of Mehtarlam, the capital of Laghman province, located in eastern Afghanistan, killed in a landmine explosion. On this March 4, RIA Novosti reported with reference to the press service head of the administration. The incident occurred on Monday morning - 10 hours and 20 minutes local time (9:50 across Moscow).
The attacks occurred near the city administration building Mehtarlama when the motorcade of Mohammad Rahim to approach his place of work. When radio landmine explosion mayor, his driver and three bodyguards were killed on the spot. To date, none of the anti-Government is not claimed responsibility for terrorist acts in Mehtarlame.
According to the agency, the incident shows that a few months before presidential elections in Afghanistan, authorities were unable to ensure the security of the state total. Previously, the date of the election was postponed from March 2009 to August. The decision was made for safety reasons, as militants of the Taliban threatened to derail the elections.
The press service of Defense Ministry of Afghanistan, RIA Novosti reported that the May 5, will meet representatives of agencies with journalists, staff of the International Security Assistance Force and NATO. The event will discuss issues of security officials and voters during the election period. Registration of candidates for president began on 25 April. The current head of state Hamid Karzai announced his intention to run for another term.
