Somali Parliament chose the president.

Ahmed is the leader of the Union of Islamic Courts, the most moderate Islamist Branch of the Alliance for the Liberation of Somali.Ahmed received the most votes in the second round ballot after his main rival, former Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein, withdrew his candidacy. All 15 participated in the election of new president of Somalia kandidatov.Vybory were appointed after December 2008, President Abdullah Yusuf Ahmed, headed the country since 2004, left the post. The resignation followed the dismissal of Hussein from his post as head of government, and appointing in his place Gouled Mohamed Mohamoud, who refused to lead the cabinet, so as not to conflict with Parliament.
Presidential Elections were held on the territory of Djibouti, as the situation in Somalia remains volatile. It was expected that Sharif Ahmed to take the oath in the Saturday that as a Somali leader to travel to the African Union Summit, which will take place over the coming weekend in Addis Ababa.
Remember, the civil war in Somalia has continued since 1991. Part of the country is under the control of Islamists, and not subject to formal government.
