At the December 29 parliamentary elections in Bangladesh, according to preliminary data, the winning party Awami League, headed by Sheikh Hasina Vazed occupied from 1996 to 2001 as prime minister. The winner in the election is declared the party, which will take most seats in the National Assembly, consisting of 300 representatives.
Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party is the largest opposition party in the country and the most likely contenders for the role of government. Leaders of both parties have promised voters to reduce the prices of food and to fight corruption.
The first since 2001 elections were held in Bangladesh in 35 thousand sites. They were attended by 200 thousand observers, and 600 thousand police officers provided security. Turnout was about 70 percent. The right to vote in these elections was 81 million people from 150 million.
