Russia will send in the Gulf of Aden a new detachment of Pacific Fleet ships.

UN Security Council in 2008 allowed foreign warships to patrol Somali waters after a sharp increase in the number of attacks by pirates on civilian vessels. The first Russian ship sent to Gulf of Aden, was "fearless", began patrolling in October 2008. In place of "fearless" in January 2009 came "Admiral Vinogradov", patrolling the dangerous district until March. "Admiral Vinogradov", in turn, was replaced by Admiral Panteleev.
Besides the Russian ships in Somali waters now warships patrol the European Union and NATO, as well as the United States and other countries.
