Forty prisoners escaped from a prison in the Peruvian jungle.

From prison San Humberto de Bagua Grande, located in the Amazon selva in northern Peru, on Saturday, 30 May, 44 inmates escaped, transfer agency AFP.

Early in the morning, the prisoners, armed with knives attacked two security guards. In the end, they managed to break through the central gate.

Early also said that the fugitives captured one of the guards hostage, and robbed him an AK-47.

Police began a large-scale operation to capture prisoners. The government appealed to the tribes living in the Amazon selva, to assist them.
