The Central American countries agreed on a common currency and passports.

The leaders of Central American countries agreed to establish a single regional currency and the introduction of common passports, AFP reported on 6 December. Those are the main points the final statement issued by the summit of Central American Integration System (Sistema de la Integracion Centroamericana, SICA) in Honduras.
The document states that these measures should increase the level of regional integration in the context of the crisis of world economic and financial system. Latin American leaders also stressed the need to develop a regional consciousness that gives people a sense of belonging to a single Central American region. " In addition, the meeting agreed to hold the "standardization of legislation" in education, employment security and immigration in order to "enhance the integration of Central America." In the summit was attended by the presidents of Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua, as well as representatives from Costa Rica, Panama, the Dominican Republic and Belize.
