High Court of Great Britain has provided nearly 1000 participants in the tests of atomic weapons, held in the 1950's, the right to file lawsuits to the Defense Ministry, demanding compensation for health damage, reports Sky News.
The Department of Defense, recognizing the debt of gratitude "to the veterans, insisted that the limitations period for claims has passed. In addition, military officials said that the relationship between the health of veterans and the participation in the testing of atomic weapons are not found quite reliably.
Participants in the tests, which took place from 1952 to 1958 years in the vicinity of Australia at the Monte Bello Islands and Christmas, said that their health was at that time suffered significant damage. Since the last hearing in the High Court in January 2009, seven of the participants in the tests have already died.
