The Japanese spent 17 years in prison because of the imperfections of the DNA tests.

The second DNA test to prove the innocence of the convicted for the rape and murder of four years of Japanese girls. After more than 17 years in prison 62-year-old Toshikazu Sugaya out to freedom from prison for especially dangerous criminals, reported Agence France-Presse
Sugaya worked as a bus driver in kindergarten. He was arrested in December 1991 and charged with kidnapping, rape and murder of a child, which occurred in May 1990. DNA test showed then that the girl is raped Sugaya.
In 1993, the court held that the defendant was sentenced to life imprisonment. The sentence was confirmed in 2000, but lawyers Sugaya appealed to the Supreme Court to request a repeat test. They insisted that the method of testing DNA in the early 1990's was still imperfect and had a high percentage of error.
In December 2008, the Supreme Court granted the application of Japan's lawyers and ordered a re-investigation. Defense and prosecution were conducted by two independent tests, and they both showed that Sugaya not involved in the commission of a crime.
Now the case will be reviewed in order to formally justify the innocent convict.
