Plans for the Pentagon to supply ammunition to Israel violated Greece.

The Pentagon has refused to supply ammunition to Israel because of the protests of Greece, the port which was to ship loaded with military supplies, explained to AFP on Tuesday an official of the U.S. defense establishment.

Agreement on the transport of ammunition from the U.S. to Greece, he recalled, was reached in the summer of 2008 - before the start of operations in the Gaza Strip. In the Israeli port of Ashdod military planned to deliver the goods through the port of Astakos (Astakos) in Greece. Munitions were to arrive in Israel until the end of January 2009. January 12, jointly with the Pentagon reported that the U.S. decided not to supply weapons to Israel "because of the inability to provide adequate security in the context of military operations in Gaza."

However, January 13, an official of the Pentagon called AFP another reason for the failure of the supply of military goods to Israel. Athens, he said, expressed displeasure that the shipment of ammunition will be transferred to their territory. The Pentagon, he said, is developing a plan for delivery of munitions to Israel on another route, adding that so far can not even approximate timing of sending the goods to Israel.
