In the Gulf of Aden pirates seized a Greek ship.

SyuzhetyPiratstvo off Somali19.03.2009Somaliyskie fishermen seized an Iranian ship the Gulf of Aden off the coast of Somalia seized a Greek ship with 24 crew members on board, said on the night of Friday, RIA Novosti with reference to the Ministry of Merchant Navy Greece.

The ship "Titan", the Greek-owned company, and walk under the flag of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, was carrying a cargo of iron in South Korea from one of the Black Sea ports, the interlocutors told RIA Novosti. No details of the accident has not yet been clarified.

The composition of the crew of the ship, caught in the mercy of the pirates is a Ukrainian citizen, and three Greek citizens - the captain, first officer and engineer. The nationality of the remaining 20 crew members have not yet been clarified, but it is known that the Russians do not see.

As of mid-March 2009 Somali pirates detained at least 15 vessels belonging to different countries for which they expect to receive a ransom. For the Saudi tanker Sirius Star, captured Nov. 15, 2008, the pirates received a ransom of 3 million U.S. dollars. For the captured Sept. 25, 2008 ship "Faina", carrying the Ukrainian weapons, the pirates got 3.2 million dollars.

In response to a sharp increase in the number of pirate attacks, the UN Security Council in 2008 allowed foreign warships to patrol Somali waters in 2008. Gulf of Aden patrol ships of NATO countries - EU members, as well as Russia.
