Guinea-Bissau's army has denied reports of the coup.

The army of Guinea-Bissau President Joao Bernardo Vieira of March 2, was killed by rebel soldiers, declared that, despite everything, the army will remain faithful to the constitutional order and democracy. The military called the people to remain calm, transfer agency AFP.

Reported that the statement was preceded by a meeting of higher military leadership. In addition, Prime Minister Carlos Gomes Junior (Carlos Gomes Junior) convened an emergency meeting, following which was set up crisis headquarters "in order to save the situation."

Joao Bernardo Vieira was shot the morning when attackers tried to escape from his residence in the military. Those, for their part stated that the attempt was a response to the assassination of the Chief of General Staff Tagme At Vaye (Tagme Na Waie), which is the evening of March 1, killed in a suicide bombing in the building of the General Staff.

In recent months between Vieira and Tagme At Vaye have a very strained relationship. In December nachgenshtaba publicly stated that supporters of the president tried to kill him. After the country gained its independence in 1974 Vieira became prime minister. In 1980 he organized a coup, became president and remained in power until 1998, then was again elected president in 2005.
