In the stampede to the speech of the Pope in Angola killed two people.

Two people were killed in a stampede, resulting in the speech of Pope Benedict XVI in the capital of Angola, Reuters reports with reference to the Portuguese news agency Lusa. A further 18 people, according to AFP, received injuries of various degrees of severity.

Crowd came for 4.5 hours before the event with the participation of Benedict XVI on the entrance to the stadium on the outskirts of Luanda. Address by the Pope in front of a Christian youth attracted tens of thousands of people. Stampede victims were a man and a woman who died at the scene. Another 18 people were injured, the severity of which has not yet been clarified.

The capital of Angola, Benedict XVI has visited during his forthcoming visit to the African continent after he was elected head of the Roman Catholic Church. In Luanda, Pope took part in events commemorating the 500 anniversary of the spread of Christianity in this region of Africa.
