Former U.S. President Bill Clinton appointed UN special representative in Haiti, reports AP, referring to Clinton's press secretary Matt McKenna (Matt McKenna).
As can be seen from the official message of Bill Clinton, excerpts of which issued May 18, The Miami Herald, an invitation to take the post of Special Representative of the former president received from the UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon. As expected, Ban Ki-moon has formally announced the appointment of Clinton on 19 May.
Clinton's mission will be to attract foreign investment into the country, which is one of the poorest nations in the world. In 2008, as a result of several hurricanes in Haiti, killed nearly 800 people and the country's economy has been damaged, which is rated at one billion dollars.
It recalls The Washington Post, in 2004, Clinton has organized aid to Haiti after the country hit by the tsunami. The Miami Herald, in turn, notes that Bill Clinton's charity organization The Clinton Foundation for its existence has managed to attract over 46 billion dollars of funding and help nearly 200 million people worldwide.
