The Prime Minister of Scotland Alex Selmond announced intention to expand the largest bank in Europe, wind power Whitelee. This May 20, said BBC News.
According to Selmonda company ScottishPower Renewables has received permission from the authorities to increase the number of turbines of the station from 140 to 176. This station will serve the 250 thousand houses instead of 180 thousand. In addition, the expansion of the station will create approximately 300 additional jobs.
Station Whitelee, near Glasgow, began producing electricity in January 2008. Space power is comparable to the center area of Glasgow. Thus far, however, its construction is not considered to be completed. Now that the application for 36 additional turbines approved by the authorities, ScottishPower Renewables plans to raise the issue of expanding power for another 45 turbines.
Perhaps in the near future station Whitelee will begin in the summer to open for visitors coming on foot or traveling by bicycle.
Professor David MacKay of Cambridge University told journalists that the expansion of Whitelee - important but not the last step on the road to environmentally friendly electricity. According to him, to improve the environmental situation in 2030 in the United Kingdom should be a 100-fold increase in the number of wind power. It may also have to five-fold increase in the number of nuclear power plants.
