Nicaragua interested in Russian aircraft.

Nicaragua is negotiating with Russia over the acquisition for the needs of the Nicaraguan army planes and helicopters of Russian manufacture. On the interest of the Nicaraguan military equipment to Russia said on Thursday the Supreme head of Nicaragua, General Omar Halleslevens (Omar Halleslevens), transmits the Spanish информагентство EFE.
According to Halleslevensa, Nicaragua is planning to acquire four to eight helicopters and two planes, as well as spare parts for repair and upgrading of a further two aircraft already in the arming of Nicaraguan Air Force. Halleslevens emphasized that the purchase of new equipment will not break the balance of power in Latin America, but will help the country in the fight against drug trafficking.
The general also said that Nicaragua has been able to reach agreement with Spain concerning the strengthening of the Nicaraguan Navy, noting that the country is open to any suggestions on this subject.
The armed forces of Nicaragua are among the smallest in the world, there are, according to some sources, 14 thousand troops. The cost of the Army of Nicaragua, as of 2006 accounted for 0.6 percent of GDP.
It should be noted that the Russian aviation equipment is in great demand worldwide, and is about 56 percent of total exports of the Russian military. In 2008, Russia began to master the markets of Latin America, entering into contracts for the supply of military vehicles in Venezuela, Mexico, Peru, Colombia and Brazil. It was also reported on the prospects for exports to Bolivia, Uruguay and Venezuela. Nicaragua, however, earlier in the lists of potential buyers of Russian-made equipment is not included.
