Sarkozy called for a European gas exchange.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy during a speech on the upcoming elections in June the European Parliament, called for the establishment of the European gas markets, reported May 5 AFP.
"I want to propose the idea of creating a European stock exchange, it would take the purchase of gas, which will enable Europe to take a really strong position in negotiations with suppliers," - said Sarkozy at a meeting held in the city of Nimes in the south.
According to the President of France, the establishment of stock exchanges should be the basis for a "true energy strategy of the European Union, reports Dow Jones.
At the same time, according to the agency ITAR-TASS, Sarkozy urged Russia to consider, which is the main supplier of gas to Europe, "not as an opponent of European Union, but as a partner."
In January of 2009 as a result of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine to Europe were temporarily suspended deliveries of Russian gas, soon after that in Europe talked about the creation of a new strategy for energy security.
In March, the EU and Ukraine signed the Brussels Declaration on upgrading the transmission system of Ukraine, which does not participate in the process of Russia. In April the EU approved a plan to liberalize the energy market, which limits the rights of mining companies to own distribution networks in the blocks.
