El Salvador and Cuba re-established diplomatic relations.

Monday, June 1, representatives of El Salvador and Cuba signed the documents for the restoration of diplomatic relations, reports AFP.
The decision on the rapprochement with Havana, it was the new president of El Salvador Mauricio Funes (Mauricio Funes), elected in March 2009 and assumed office on Monday. Thus, Funes, nominated for the presidency of the leftist forces, was able to fulfill its election promises.
Diplomatic contacts between the two countries ended in 1959. The initiator of the gap was made by El Salvador, as the causes of these coming to power of Fidel Castro.
El Salvador has become the latest Latin American State to resume diplomatic relations with Havana. Earlier, in March 2009, despite serious disagreements on some issues, re-established relations with Cuba, Costa Rica.
