In the European Parliament from Latvia have been pro-Russian party.

Latvia at the elections held simultaneously in the European Parliament and in local government was the party "consent of the Center, which represents the interests of the country's Russian-speaking population, sends agency Associated Press.

European Center of consent "has received two of the eight seats assigned to Latvia. Another place got another pro-Russian Party - ZaPChEL (For Human Rights in United Latvia). For comparison: at the last European Parliament elections in the Center of the agreement "could only get one vote.

At the election of the Duma of Riga City Center of consent "has received almost 34 per cent of the vote. Party leader Neil Ushakov had already expressed willingness to form a ruling coalition.

Long time pro-Russian parties in Latvia remained virtually excluded from power, because the Latvian political establishment considered them as agents of influence of Moscow.

The fact that the current elections to the European Parliament, many citizens of Latvia vote pro-Social Democratic Party-wing, largely explain the effects of economic crisis, which have been in Latvia harder than the rest of Europe.

About one third of the 2.3 million population of Latvia, are, according to the Associated Press, the ethnic Russians. Meanwhile, many of them continue to be considered "non-citizens", since moved to the country after the Second World War, at a time when, according to the official point of view, the Latvian authorities, Latvia was occupied by the USSR.
