Montenegro arrested an alleged member of a criminal group "Pink Panther", specializing in the kidnapping of jewelry. According to the Associated Press, citing local police, Lekić Vladimir (Vladimir Lekic) was arrested on Sunday, June 14, at his home in the Montenegrin town of Cetinje on the request of Interpol.
Lekić suspected that took part in what happened in December 2003 robbery of jewelry store in the German Frankfurt. Then the robbers managed to carry valuables in a million euro.
It is assumed that the crime committed Lekić along with two other citizens of Montenegro, which, as the Associated Press, is currently sitting in jail in France. The Agency did not specify the name of these people and what they were convicted. Perhaps, we are talking about, Nikolai Ivanovich (Nicolai Ivanovic) and Zoran Kostic (Zoran Kostic), who at the beginning of June 2009 were sentenced by a French court to prison terms for using false documents.
It is also reported that the German authorities tried to extradite Lekić despite the fact that the law prohibits the extradition of Montenegrin citizens to foreign countries.
Banda "Pink Panther", the backbone of which are native-born Balkans, in effect since 2003. The group attributed to dozens of robberies of jewelry stores around the world, including France, Switzerland, Germany, Monaco and Japan. The total cost of the abducted members of the "Pink Panthers" of jewelry valued at 200 million euros.
In addition to Ivanovic and Kostic, currently in detention are still three party bands. In October 2007, they were convicted of robbery of the jewelry shop in Japan (then the criminals go to jewelry valued at more than 20 million euros). Robbers were tried in Belgrade. They received terms ranging from three to seven years' imprisonment.
