Italy recalled batch of radioactive biofuels imported from Lithuania, said AFP. Traces of radioactive contamination were found in the wood pellets - pressed pellets, which are made from sawdust and other waste timber.
Recalled batch of fuel is 10 thousand tons. According to AFP, it detected cesium 137.
Radioactive biofuels imported from Lithuania to Italy last fall and sold in 11 areas in the south and north. Samples of fuel sent to the laboratory analysis, after one of the customers complained that it was poorly lit.
Reported that in itself purchased in Lithuania, wood pellets are not dangerous to humans - could represent a threat to ash and smoke, which is formed when they are burning.
