MI6 head the former British ambassador to the UN.

British Ambassador to the UN John Soers (John Sawers) headed by the secret intelligence service (SIS, Secret Intelligence Service), better known as MI6, BBC News reported, citing the statement by Downing Street.
Soers take this position in November, when the resignation would take the current head of John Scarlett (John Scarlett).
The representative of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said that Scarlett had done important work by making a contribution to protecting the country from international terrorism and other global threats.
Prior to his appointment in 2004 as head of MI6 name Scarlett was named in connection with the scandal over "Iraq dossier" of Tony Blair. His suspected of fraud intelligence that persuaded the British Parliament to begin a military campaign in Iraq.
However, the representative of Downing Street stressed that the resignation of Scarlett had nothing to do with the beginning of the investigation the British invasion of Iraq, which was announced June 15. In doing so, according to BBC News, Scarlett might be one of the key witnesses in the investigation.
According to teleradiokorporatsiya, the appointment of John Soersa to head MI6 demonstrates the openness sought by the service. It is noted that Soers is a known figure and experienced diplomat.
Soers became the British Ambassador to the UN in 2007. Prior to that he was a diplomatic representative in Baghdad, and an advisor on foreign policy, former prime Blera.S 1999 and 2001 Soers dealt with the settlement of the conflict in Kosovo and Northern Ireland.
Successor Soersa as the representative of Britain in the UN has not yet been announced.
