SyuzhetyPovtornye nuclear tests in KNDR10.06.2009Rossiya OONSovet approved the resolution the UN Security Council on Friday, June 12, tightened sanctions against North Korea, reported AFP. The new resolution, for which all members of the Security Council voted, provides a complete ban on the export of arms from North Korea and further restrictions on the importation of arms and ammunition to North Korea, said RIA Novosti.
The document recommends that countries within the Security Council, to inspect vessels for which there is a suspicion that the board is illicit cargo. United States and Japan insisted on the need to make such tests mandatory, but the proposal did not receive support.
In addition, the Security Council resolution condemns held May 25, 2009 nuclear test and demands that North Korea halt all programs related to ballistic missiles and return to the implementation of previous resolutions, in particular, to allow IAEA inspectors into the country.
Note that now the list of weapons that can be delivered to North Korea, is only small arms and light weapons. The DPRK can not deliver luxury products. The resolution also provides for economic sanctions: the members of the Security Council advised not to provide North Korea's soft loans and credits to any needs.
Earlier, Russia, United States, United Kingdom, China and France as a core member of the Security Council endorsed the draft resolution.
Earlier, representatives from Pyongyang said that any new sanctions against the DPRK would be considered as a declaration of war.
