North Korean authorities have promised to restore telephone service in South Korea the day on 21 March, AFP reported with reference to the representative of the DPRK government.
Communication on a single telephone line between the countries was interrupted on 9 March with the start of joint military exercises in south Korea and the United States. Earlier, North Korea opened its border with South Korea also closed in protest against the exercises.
After it became aware of the steps taken by Pyongyang to exercise, Seoul asked the neighbor immediately to cancel. South Korea referred to the agreement in force between the countries, which have been unilaterally abrogated by North Korea in January 2009.
Faulty telephone communications influenced the work of joint ventures in the North Korean border area of Kaesong. The government of South Korea could not get permission to enter their workers to the territory of the enterprises, so as not to contact authorities in the North. In Kaesong, there are more than 80 industrial enterprises.
