Japan imposed an embargo on trade with the DPRK.

Japan imposed an embargo on the export of goods to North Korea in response to nuclear tests by Pyongyang in May 2009. That was reported by AFP on Tuesday, 16 June.
According to a statement circulated by the Ministry of Commerce of Japan, the ban on exports of Japanese goods into North Korea will be in effect until April 2010. According to the Office Masuru Yamadzumi (Masaru Yamazumi), the prohibition extends to all kinds of Japanese products.
For the first time, Japan imposed economic sanctions against North Korea in 2006, when North Korea held its first nuclear test. At that time Japan has banned the export to North Korea 24 items related to luxury items such as eggs, some species of tuna and "masthead" electronics. Also in 2006, was a ban on the importation of all goods from the DPRK, as North Korean ships have been banned port calls in Japan.
According to Japanese statistics, in 2008 the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to 792.6 million yen (about 8.2 million U.S. dollars). North Korea imported from Japan machinery, rolling stock, vehicles, food and electronics.
Last Friday, June 12, the UN Security Council on the initiative of Japan and United States tightened economic sanctions against the DPRK. In particular, the Security Council member countries were encouraged to refuse to provide Pyongyang any credit.
