The government of Pakistan led by President Asif Ali Zardari have agreed to the demands of the opposition and decided to reinstate the post of head of the Supreme Court Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry (Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry), dismissed the former head of state Pervez Musharraf. This was on Monday with the Associated Press reports citing senior government sources who wanted to remain unnamed.
Supporters of Pakistani opposition leader, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also said that the Government sent them a notice of early reinstatement of the judge Chaudhry. As a UN member-states, however, an official statement on the matter has not yet been done, beyond the promise of that country are waiting for "good news" that will help overcome the political crisis. It was expected that Chaudhry will be officially sworn in on March 22 already.
Judge Chaudhry was sacked by Musharraf in 2007, once tried to initiate an investigation, questioning the legality of stay in power then the president. The dismissal of Chaudhry led a wave of protests across the country, which ultimately contributed to the care Musharraf from the post of head of state and the election of President Zardari, promising, among other things, to restore Chaudhry to the post.
Zardari, however, has not fulfilled its promise, fearing perhaps that Chaudhry returned to the Supreme Court, will begin an investigation of corruption cases that have involved the current President of Pakistan. Now, consider the opposition, with the return of Chaudhry will be the hope that Pakistan will eventually become the rule of law with an independent legal system.
Recall the riots began in Pakistan after the February 25 Supreme Court banned the country's opposition leader Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shabazz Sharif to hold elective office.
