The Government of Estonia has decided to stop the investigation into the death of the ferry "Estonia", RIA Novosti reported on 19 February.
The Cabinet heard a report fourth government commission, had investigated the circumstances of the disaster, and concluded that the information will not be able to give more information about its causes. In this regard, the committee was disbanded.
In the record as the most probable cause of death of the ferry were its design flaws and severe weather conditions. This is consistent with the findings of the International Commission, published in 1997. According to the official version, the ferry sank due to a defect of bow doors, which have not stood the storm and began to pass water.
At the same time, many experts and relatives of those killed in the crash was called in as a possible cause of the explosion of Soviet military equipment, which allegedly transported on the ferry, a collision with a NATO submarine, as well as the actions of criminals, thus striving to conceal the transportation of contraband.
The ferry "Estonia", coming from Tallinn to Stockholm, sank in the Baltic Sea on 28 September 1994. As a result of the disaster killed 852 people, 137 managed to escape.
