Heads of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the countries - members of NATO at a meeting in Brussels decided to resume relations with Russia at the summit, tells AFP, referring to diplomatic sources. It is expected that this will be officially announced on March 5.
According to the unnamed diplomat at the meeting had been agreed in principle on the resumption of contacts.
Contacts in Russia and the NATO summit had been suspended following the intervention of Moscow in the Georgia-South Ossetia conflict in August 2008. Alliance accused Russia of aggression against Georgia, but Moscow is categorically rejected. Meanwhile, in December, informal relations were resumed.
According to the AFP, the representatives of some states at the meeting also made for the resumption of the Russia-NATO Council. Earlier, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Norway and Spain stated that the sanctions imposed on Russia, are counterproductive.
Reported that on 4 March in Brussels to meet the delegations of Ukraine and Georgia with FM countries - members of the alliance. According to the agency, it will be done "to the concerns" of Kiev and Tbilisi to seek membership in NATO.
