The European Commission approved a plan under which the ordinary incandescent lamps will be gradually replaced with energy-saving, reports Deutsche Welle.
The first - in September 2009 - will be removed from the sale of 100-watt "light bulb Ilyich." Since 2010, followed by 75-watt bulbs. By the year 2012 on the shelves of European stores will not remain a single conventional light bulb.
According to EU plans, the traditional incandescent lamps will be replaced by energy saving lamps, which consume 75 percent less electricity.
Such a ban has already been approved in other countries. For example, in New Zealand, ordinary light bulbs will disappear from sale in October 2009. In the U.S. law on the replacement of traditional incandescent lamps had been signed in late 2007. As expected, these bulbs will disappear completely from U.S. stores by 2014.
